iPhone Sizes Change Next Year

The iPhone series has a long history of screen size changes, and it seems that Apple is set to make some significant updates for the iPhone 17 lineup. According to rumors and leaks, here’s what we can expect:

The standard iPhone 17 model might come with a 6.3-inch display, which is an increase from the 6.1-inch size of the iPhone 16 model. This would make it the same size as the current iPhone 16 Pro, and would fit between the 6.1-inch iPhone 15 and the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus.

On the other hand, the iPhone 17 Air model, which might replace the Plus model, is expected to have a display size between 6.5-6.6 inches, making it smaller than the current iPhone 16 Plus, but larger than the iPhone 17 Pro.

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models, however, seem to be sticking with their current sizes of 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively, although we can expect “significant design changes” that go beyond just display size.

In other news, it’s possible that we’ll see the expansion of ProMotion to all iPhone models, which would allow for a 120Hz refresh rate for a smoother scrolling and video experience. This feature is currently only available on “Pro” models. Additionally, the iPhone 17 and 17 Air might be able to ramp down to a 1Hz refresh rate for an always-on display, allowing for a lock screen that shows the clock, widgets, notifications, and wallpaper even when the device is locked.

As for new display technologies, we might see the adoption of Low-Dielectric TEE (Transmission Electrically Enhanced) in the iPhone 17 Pro models, which could reduce signal interference and energy loss, leading to more efficient power usage and potentially longer battery life.

Other rumors suggest that the iPhone 17 will feature an anti-reflective display that is more scratch-resistant than Ceramic Shield, although it’s not entirely clear if this is a new Gorilla Glass Armor or something different.
