Meta Ray-Bans to Get AI Assistant

You might soon be getting a fresh update for Meta’s latest Ray-Ban smart glasses. According to the Financial Times, Meta plans to release an updated version of its Meta Ray-Ban glasses in the second half of 2025. For now, the Meta Ray-Ban glasses come with a price tag of $299. Let’s take a closer look at what this update has in store for you.

The update is expected to bring a small display that can show notifications and responses from Meta’s AI assistant. This information was teased by anonymous sources, according to the report.

So, what changes are we looking at? Mark Zuckerberg has described smart glasses as the next “computing platform”. Meta is also planning to invest billions in developing augmented-reality glasses. The main goal is to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and other advanced tech capabilities into the wearer’s field of view. However, Meta has yet to comment on the product launch.

Looking ahead, Meta is also working on its Orion augmented-reality glasses. Zuckerberg initially showcased a prototype of Orion in September, comparing it to a time machine. The glasses have the ability to project virtual objects into their frame, allowing for viewing notifications, video calls, and other computing capabilities. However, the Orion glasses are still available for developers to work with as a prototype.

Furthermore, Andrew Bosworth, Meta’s Chief Technology Officer, has hinted at the next big step. He said, “There are big plans toward the metaverse envisioned by the company’s Reality Labs division.” He also highlighted that the company is combining AI glasses with augmented-reality experiences, with the goal of proving that these glasses are the best hardware for integrating AI capabilities.
